YOUTH LEADERSHIP CONFERENCES

These are day- long seminars held throughout the year for Middle and High School students. The goal of the sessions is to provide the skills necessary for inclusive leadership. The expectation is that the emerging leaders who attend these conferences will practice, use, model, and teach what they have learned in their schools and the broader community. In partnership with area social agencies, the NFJC has found a unique way to bring a wide range of issues important to young people to an exciting seminar where participation is the key. Our upcoming Youth Leadership Conferences titled "The Elephant in the Room: Discussing Diversity" are scheduled for June 5th (for High Schools) and June 7th (for Middle Schools).Due date for registration is Friday, June 1, 2012. These conferences which are being held at Medaille College will run from 8:30AM -1:30PM, will include a light breakfast and lunch. 	The NFJC Youth Leadership Conferences focused on the Anti-Bullying/Bullying Awareness and Building Cross Cultural Alliances. The sessions were interactive events for student leaders in Middle and High School and brought together diverse groups of participants from all across the WNY region. The For Youth/By Youth conferences held at Medaille College, were the first ever of their kind for the NFJC on this topic, and the young people who ran them helped participants design innovative solutions that they could implement in their respective schools. The Building Alliances conferences were designed to provide youth with the skills and techniques needed to reach across traditional social barriers and form meaningful friendships. Students reflect on their communities examining who is seen as the "outsider among us", and then devise action plans to make their own communities more inclusive. Our annual Youth Leadership Conferences are an important and powerful part of the NJFC programming. They provide true social learning experiences for all who participate, and they empower youth to see real change.
